[ENG VER] Event Summary 2025 in Indonesia and Worldwide

Hello guys, how are you doing today? I hope you're doing well! We are now right in the middle of the 203 or the 2020s, meaning that we are now in 2025, a year full of stories from all around the world. However, this year has also been marked by many conflicts and demonstrations (protests), one of which is the ongoing Israel–Palestine conflict. In addition, there have been other conflicts in Myanmar and Sudan, while the Russia–Ukraine war is also still ongoing. In Indonesia, there have also been three major waves of demonstrations: the “Dark Indonesia (Indonesia Gelap)” protests, Protests over the TNI Bill, and the DPR RI protests in August–September.

In the field of technology, there have also been many major AI-related developments in 2025. One of them is the emergence of DeepSeek AI, a new competitor to OpenAI (ChatGPT) from China. In addition, OpenAI launched GPT-5, while Google released Gemini 2.0 and 2.5, and has even reached Gemini 3.

This year has also seen the implementation of large-scale tariff policies affecting economies and businesses around the world since Donald Trump was sworn in as President of the United States. Indonesia has also been affected by Trump's tax and import tariffs.

In Indonesia, there have also been several controversial policies since Prabowo Subianto was sworn in as President of Indonesia, one of which is the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program. Another policy that has placed some additional burdens on the public is the increase in the Value Added Tax (VAT/PPN) to 12%. There was also a Military Barracks Program implemented in several areas of West Java after Kang Dedi Mulyadi (KDM) became Governor of West Java. Furthermore, the President launched and established a new financial sector organization called Danantara Indonesia.

Toward the end of the year, several parts of Indonesia also experienced natural disasters, particularly floods and landslides, especially in the Sumatra region, including Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. This was caused by Tropical Cyclone Senyar, which affected not only Indonesia but also several other Southeast Asian countries, such as Thailand and Malaysia.
